Does Swhacker make Mechanical/Expandable Broadheads for Crossbows?

The short answer to the question is Yes and No. Let me explain.

Any Swhacker mechanical broadhead can be used with a crossbow. This has been true for a number of years. If the bow shoots at more than 420fps, then we recommend using two retention bands to keep the blades closed until impact.

SPOILER ALERT: We’ll be releasing crossbow-specific retention bands later this year. You’ll be able to purchase them in standalone packs, and eventually they’ll be included in the packaging of all Swhacker mechanical broadheads.

We’re in the process of phasing out several Made for Crossbows broadheads. All of these models have existing “twins,” so if you currently shoot a broadhead that says Made for Crossbows on the packaging, the only thing that will change for you is the model number of the broadhead you shoot. The materials, weight, cut width—all that will be exactly the same. Here’s a list of their models that are being discontinued and their twins.

Why did Swhacker have “Made for Crossbow” models to begin with?

Simply put, it was an experiment. A couple of our large retail partners suggested that we might be missing out on sales if we didn’t have Swhacker broadheads available in their crossbow section and their bow section. In response, we took some of our most popular models, made crossbow-specific packaging, and in some cases we changed the color of the anodizing on the ferrule. But that’s it—same broadhead, same price, different packaging.

Turns out, it wasn’t necessary. So we decided to eliminate the redundant models and focus on making sure people know that they can shoot any Swhacker mechanical broadhead with a crossbow provided they follow the recommendations above.

So we end up where we started. No, Swhacker does not make crossbow-specific mechanical broadheads. But Yes, you can shoot any Swhacker mechanical broadhead with a crossbow.
